The “Eye of the Shepherd”

The shepherd’s eye is constantly evaluating the health of his charges. He is familiar with each animal’s habits and knows when they are changing and often the changes in behavior can be an early tip of something that needs attention.

The “eye of the shepherd” governs everything we do at The 1 Alpaca Farm.

Welcome to The 1 Alpaca Farm

Picture #1We welcome you to our farm and invite you to come along on a wonderful experience.

Our breeding choices are made with the intent of bringing about the best possible Alpaca.  Our shepherd’s eye looks for conformation, fineness and abundance of fleece, along with an alpaca disposition.   In our shepherd’s eye there is the ideal Alpaca that we are striving for.  Our farm is in the early stages of development and we look forward to seeing all of you here on a regular basis to keep in touch with what is happening.

Our activities with the animals include taking walks with them, moving among them, reaching out to touch them and let them touch us to know who we are.  David spends time sitting and reading to them. The crias often come to gather around and listen while they are nibbling at the hay spread on the ground. Terri oversees and makes sure that she checks each animal for all the health and medical situations until it is time to call the Vet.

Our focus is two fold, to develop the ideal huacaya alpaca and to search for the alpacas that demonstrate the phenotype characteristics of the vicuna and breed for the ideal paco-vicuna.

So come along and see what is going on at the 1 Alpaca Farm and develop your own Eye of the Shepherd.
